History

This building originated in the 1800's, situated at the foot of Cole's Monument, Lord Cole being the founder of this island town. From the outset the purpose of this building was to provide refreshments, it was also used as a coaching stop, which was discovered when we were renovating plasterwork in the area we have developed into Saddlers Restaurant.

The picture above was provided by the Belmore Court Motel.

At the turn of the century Quinn's owned the premises and they closed up the stable archway and until the development of this restaurant, the frontage remained unchanged.

Quinns' then sold the premises in 1904 to Jeffers, who owned the building for 17 years. At this time the premises was number 23 Belmore Street, it remained this number until 1967 when it changed to the present number of 66. Jeffers then sold to Frank Macken in 1921; he kept the premises for 36 years and then sold it to Kevin McNamee in 1957. The McNamees owned the premises until 1960. It was then sold to John Donohue; he refurbished the public bar in 1964. Then three years later our family purchased the premises.

We developed the function room and extended our bar in 1978. The frontage of the premises remained unchanged until Saddlers Restaurant was added in 1989.

In 2000 we renovated the outside of the premises.
