About Us

History Of The Horseshoe Bar & Saddlers Restaurant

This building originated in the 1800’s, situated at the foot of Cole’s Monument, Lord Cole being the founder of this island town. From the outset the purpose of this building was to provide refreshments, it was also used as a coaching stop, which was discovered when we were renovating plasterwork in the area we have developed into Saddlers Restaurant.

At the turn of the century Quinn’s owned the premises and they closed up the stable archway and until the development of this restaurant, the frontage remained unchanged.

Quinns’ then sold the premises in 1904 to Jeffers, who owned the building for 17 years. At this time the premises was number 23 Belmore Street, it remained this number until 1967 when it changed to the present number of 66.

Jeffers then sold to Frank Macken in 1921; he kept the premises for 36 years and then sold it to Kevin McNamee in 1957. The McNamees owned the premises until 1960. It was then sold to John Donohue; he refurbished the public bar in 1964. Then three years later our family purchased the premises.

We developed the function room and extended our bar in 1978. The frontage of the premises remained unchanged until Saddlers Restaurant was added in 1989.

In 1993 we developed the building adjacent to The Horseshow into a butchers and delicatessen called Forthill Fine Foods.  From there we have established a dedicated supply of quality assured local meat products for Forthill Fine Foods and also that of The Horseshoe and Saddlers Restaurant.

In 1997 we purchased the Silver Lough Chinese Restaurant, which is the adjoining premises now Pizza Hut.

In 1999 we expanded and added our outside catering and events department.  We have contracts with a number of local Clubs, The Necarne Equestrian Centre and The National Trust.

In 2000 we renovated the outside of the premises.  We now offer a complete wedding service from catering to the bar facilities and have developed stronger links with The National Trust and weddings using their premises.

In 2008 we renovated our function room called The Coachman, from a nightclub to our present Bistro and Wine Bar, in which we serve food from 5pm each day until 11pm.

In the Bistro we also serve a Sunday Carvery which operates from 12 noon until 4pm each Sunday.

The intention would be to further develop the Horseshoe and Saddlers in the future to satisfy the potentially growing tourist market and outside catering business, but this can only be achieved by putting you our customers at the very centre of our vision.

Down through the years we have won numerous awards All Ireland Dining, Northern Ireland Tourist Award.

In 2011 we won Fermanagh Best Food Pub of the Year, Best Tourism/Visitor Pub and BEst Family Friendly Pub of the Year.
